  • 1982 – The local Area Agency on Aging completes a needs assessment with help from the Retirement Foundation (currently known as Mill Race Center), showing the need for Adult Day Services
  • 1985 – Just Friends incorporates as Adult Day Care Corporation; sees first participants in September of 1988 in “temporary” location at First Lutheran Church
  • Start providing adult day services to Columbus and surrounding 5 counties
  • Start a “social model” only program—primarily activities and family support with limited clinical services—Level 1 service under Indiana state certification standards
  • Serve a handful participants
  • 1989 – Serve 15 clients annually
  • 1992 – Certified to provide V.A. services under extended care benefit
  • 2005 – Pilot program providing transportation services starts
  • 2007 – Formally change name to Just Friends, Inc, increase services to provide care for Level 2 and 3 participants
  • Full time nursing
  • Social work oversight
  • Combined social/medical model
  • Add volunteer transportation—certified for reimbursement by state MW and V.A.
  • 2008 – Receive low floor minivan to transport individuals with limited mobility
  • 2009 – Monthly caregiver support group begins
  • 2010 – Receive low floor mini-vans to expand transportation services
  • 2011 – Move to Mill Race Center through a collaborative capital campaign by Just Friends and Mill Race Center
  • 2015 – Serve 70 participants annually
  • Receive  additional handicap accessible van for transportation service
  • 32 participants use transport services
  • 5 drivers and 4 vehicles currently in service
